The N-4B cold-weather flight mittens represent a specialized piece of early Cold War U.S. military aviation equipment, developed for aircrews operating in extremely cold high-altitude environments.
During the Korean War era, aircraft such as the B-29 bomber and F-86 jet fighter routinely operated at high altitudes where extreme cold created serious challenges for flight crews. Cold-weather hand protection therefore became an essential part of the aircrew equipment system.
Our N-4B is a carefully made reproduction inspired by U.S. Air Force cold-weather flight mittens of this period, recreating their distinctive oversized mitten construction, extended gauntlet cuffs, adjustment straps and insulated design.
The long gauntlet-style cuffs provide additional coverage around the wrist and lower arm, while multiple adjustment straps allow the mittens to be secured over cold-weather flight clothing. The insulated construction is designed to reflect the heavy-duty cold-weather equipment used by high-altitude aircrews during the early Cold War period.
Two color versions are available:
• Olive Green
Classic military-style nylon shell with warm insulated mitten construction.
• Dark Blue
Dark blue nylon gauntlet construction combined with black leather hand sections, reflecting the distinctive appearance of early U.S. Air Force cold-weather equipment.
