The Type N-2B was developed from the earlier N-2 flight jacket and became the second production model of the N-2 series in the late 1950s. One of the most recognizable features of the N-2 series is its short cold-weather flight jacket design combined with a distinctive split hood. In many ways, the N-2 series can be considered the shorter counterpart to the N-3 series. This reproduction stays closely focused on the construction, proportions, and functional details that give the N-2B its unique military aviation character. Materials & Construction • Custom-made NYLON 66 shell and lining • 100% wool insulation for warmth without excessive bulk • Heavy-duty No. 10 brass self-locking zipper, left-hand insertion • Reinforced cuffs with internal wool rib-knit cuffs • Rib-knit waistband • Double-row stitching construction inside the lining • Handwarmer pockets with thick fleece on the back-of-hand side and woolen fabric on the palm side • Soft faux fur hood trim • High-density synthetic fleece hood lining • Front wind flap secured with cord-style fasteners Distinctive Split Hood The split hood is one of the defining features of the N-2B. When the center zipper is fully closed, the two sides of the hood come together to form a highly protective cold-weather hood. The long faux-fur trim around the opening helps shield the face from wind and snow. The hood can also be unzipped completely and laid open across the shoulders when full protection is not needed. This unusual hood construction gives the N-2B one of the most recognizable silhouettes among classic military flight jackets. Wool Insulation Construction Unlike a conventional padded winter jacket, the insulation is not simply loose filling placed inside the garment. The N-2B uses a structured wool insulation layer that is secured with double-needle chain stitching. This construction helps provide warmth while maintaining the firm, structured appearance associated with the original N-2/N-3 family. Because of this construction, the jacket does not have the oversized or overly puffy appearance of a down jacket. A Distinctive Cold-Weather Flight Jacket Compared with the longer N-3 series, the N-2B has a shorter and cleaner silhouette. Its combination of the split hood, military proportions, rib-knit cuffs and waistband gives it a distinctive appearance that works well for both men and women. It is a practical cold-weather jacket, but also a very recognizable piece of American military aviation-inspired outerwear. Please Note The jacket may appear slightly compressed when first removed from the shipping package due to storage and transportation. Gently shake the jacket and leave it flat or hanging overnight. The wool insulation will gradually recover its natural shape and volume. Please avoid lifting or carrying the jacket by the faux-fur hood trim.
