Originally developed for U.S. Army Air Corps ground personnel working in cold and demanding conditions, the D-1 was designed to provide warmth without the bulk of heavier flight clothing.
Its simple construction, lightweight shearling and excellent mobility made it highly practical. Although originally associated with ground crews, the D-1 was also used by aircrew and could be worn as an additional insulating layer with other flight clothing.
LIGHTWEIGHT 10MM SHEARLING
This reproduction is made from premium Australian sheepskin shearling with an approximately 10 mm natural wool pile.
The shorter wool is an important part of the D-1 design, keeping the jacket relatively light, flexible and easy to move in compared with heavier shearling flight jackets.

NATURAL SHEARLING CHARACTER
The exterior leather surface and interior wool are two sides of the same natural sheepskin.
We use a relatively light surface finish to preserve the flexibility and natural character of the leather rather than applying an excessively heavy coating. Slight variations in grain, texture and tone are natural characteristics of genuine shearling and give each jacket its individual appearance.
